Building garages and homes in Florida is different than most other US locations because of the high wind/hurricane exposures and because Florida
has its own state building code, the FBC.
This state code requires special engineering for structures built in many areas of the state.
There are also many areas that allow the "prescriptive measures" (non-engineered) compliance with the code. Where calculations are required, it is
necessary for the Professional Engineer (P.E.), licensed in Florida, to review, stamp and sign the plansets and calculations submitted for the building permit application.
